Welcome to my blog.

I am currently studying for a BA (Hons) in Textiles and Surface Design.

On my blog site I'm going to display some of my work and anything I am interested in. This will include other designers, tattoo artists, embroiderers, illustrators and generally anything of interest that catches my eye.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

I have always enjoyed art and sewing. I can remember as a child my mum showing me how to crochet, knit and embroider, and me having to do what my mum was doing. So it is thanks to her introducing me to these skills that I have been able to develop my own skill over the years.

Even at School I enjoyed the art and needlework lessons but because of other options I wanted to take these subjects unfortunately had to be left behind. Although my love for art and needlework never left me and I have enjoyed many knitting and sewing projects over the years.

Having passed all my exams at Secondary School I took part in a YTS training programme which involved work placement and a day release to college. Whilst at college I continued to extend my knowledge and computer skills whilst at my work placement with O'Neil and Partners, Quantity Surveyors. I gained much experience with general day to day running of an office but also working to deadlines to meet clients needs. Its with this company that I continued to work with for 15 years.

Whilst working at O'Neil and Partners I attended college part time and in the evenings gaining qualifications in British Sign Language which is really enjoyable to learn. During my time at College I studied a Medical Secretarial course which I passed and I then worked for Royal Bolton Hospital for 5 years as a Medical Secretary.

During my working time at O'Neil and Partners and Royal Bolton Hospital my parents ran a local pub which I worked in to help them out which has greatly helped my confidence in dealing with the public.

I currently work in a Secondary School as a Cover Assistant which involves teaching classes when a member of staff is off. This covers the full range of curriculum subjects. With this you have to 'think on your feet', be disciplined but also gain respect and get a good working relationship with the pupils.

Before being a Cover Assistant I worked as a Special Needs Assistant whire I worked one to one with many challenging pupils. It was during this time that my love for drawing started up again as I was helping pupils with problems like Down's Syndrome, ADHD and even Autism through their GCSE Art coursework and exams which I thoroughtly enjoyed doing.

I always have a sketchbook with me and I draw at every opportunity. With many pupils at school I'm known as 'the teacher that can draw', and they really enjoy looking at my work. We are currently in the process of setting up a drawing club to encourage and develop their drawing skills and I currently run an embroidery club at the school where I teach year 7's to sew. I find encouraging them in their interest of drawing and sewing rewarding and seeing them finish a piece of work they are proud of is a real sense of achievement.
